about
“The genre is songs,” is a direct quote from Louie Short. It does well to represent both his approach and sense of humour. After all this this is an artist whose previous bio included the line: “He’s not not trying to be Carol King.” The point is, Louie is a songwriter, and a very, very good one. The Toronto artist released his sophomore record Omw 4ev on 444% in 2021, following a local hit with 2019’s Cherry, Cherry and standout single “Beautality.”
"Daniel" is the latest single by Short, and the first release from a forthcoming 2023 EP. It’s a song that showcases the warmth and whimsy of Louie's signature songwriting, simultaneously harkening back to the iconic styles of 70s icons like King, James Taylor and Carly Simon.
As with those previous releases, Louie serves as the sole architect of the project, polishing his DIY instincts from songwriting all the way through the mix. As for the song’s inspiration, Lou simply had this to say: “To anyone I know named Daniel, please understand that my middle name is Daniel and that I am not talking about you.”
